Pinewood Car Derby race Rules:
 

1.  Competitor categories:  Same age group races together.

 

2.  Attendance:  Only the child may enter their car.  This means that the child must be present to enter their car into the race.

 

3.  Single entry per car:  a car may be entered in only one race.

 

4.  Single Trophy Per Race.  The number of heats per race and the number of races depend on the number of entries.

 

5. Single car per child per event:  A child may enter only one car per event.

 

6.  Time table for races on Sunday (June 15, 2008) will be available at a later date.

Prizes For:

1.  Best race design which looks like a race car.

 

2.  Most unusual design that works within race specs.

 

3.  Fastest car.

Day of Race Guidelines (June 15, 2008)
 

1.  Inspection of car:  Car will be weighed and measured at Lovell Park at the designated race area.

 

2.  Once car has received its number sticker, the child will place their car on the table provided.

 

3.  Parent’s child will place their car at the starting line and retrieve their car at the finish line.  Then they will return their car back to the table provided.

 

4.  If car crosses over to another lane and interferes with another car, then the car at fault will be taken out of the race.

 

5.  If during a race no car reaches the track’s finish line, the car going the farthest in its lane shall be the winner.

 

6.  Questions from parents or child should be addressed to Chris Pettigrew, Gloria Benedict, and race helpers wearing a race car tag.

Guidelines for Making the Derby Car
 

1.  Weights and attachments:  Weight may be added to the car and will be considered part of the car for purposes of all measurements and its weight.  All materials must be securely fastened to the car by permanent glue, nails or screws.

 

2.  Gravity powered:  Sticky substances and protrusions which may catch on the starting pin on the racing track cannot be used.

 

3.  The car body should not have any moving parts.
